Transportation workers blocked access to the airport and shut down commerce for about 3 days because of a hike in natural gas prices. Thankfully a deal was struck with the federal government and local leaders. This is the most disruptive event that Lost World has ever dealt with in Patagonia and we are very happy that it has been concluded quickly.

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/americas/01/18/chile.gas.strike/adventuresomehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13719585662328964950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1180553684880956574.post-78279229835351624952011-01-14T12:50:00.005-05:002011-01-14T13:13:20.703-05:0022nd to the 29th of January retreat on Roatan

Soak up some sun in Honduras on the island of Roatan! In its latest edition, The New York Times listed Cartagena de Indias and Bogota among its “31 places to go in 2010”. Affordability, beauty, diversity, and close location are only a few characteristics of why Colombia is an untapped destination to visit.

If you have already been in Colombia, we invite to share your unforgettable experience by login into the New York Times and recommend the “Latin America’s next affordable hot spot”.

Go to the following webpage to comment:
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/travel/2010-places-to-go.html#/25/

Colombia’s tourism industry has grown exponentially during the last few years. In 2009, tourism grew by 10.4% (according to the UNWTO) while tourism worldwide decreased by 4%. International hotel chains such as Hilton, Radisson, Holiday inn, and Sofitel are now present while airline carriers continue increasing flights. Jet Blue, Spirit, Delta, Continental, Avianca, and American Airlines offer daily non-stop flights from the USA to Colombia’s main cities. The cruise industry has also reassured its confidence on Colombia’s ports of call. In 2010, the country expects to welcome over 350,000 passengers aboard of the prestigious vessels of Royal Caribbean, Pullmantur, Princes Cruises, Holland America Line, Norwegian cruise Line among many others.

If you would like to learn more about Colombia’s exotic destinations, download this latest electronic magazine here: http://www.colombia.travel/es/turista-internacional/multimedia/revista-digital-wwwcolombiatravelGarveyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04801460479648048619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1180553684880956574.post-80333881417243407962010-05-05T15:55:00.002-04:002010-05-05T16:08:59.530-04:00ANTHONY'S KEY - Buy 1, Get 2nd Half-off<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 149px; height: 130px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJIz9teMFCOWsUKVAnPPeB8cyVP-0vBaXI85Ud5hiSR29ryxPvxXJZtF798HbIQ5SdK0nFpsLi5sPrzxVAeMOBZH3ZQ3vtLP3blLVpCVA9hvoMsAX4hyJugYgvIHFb8Xfo1_kVGZ9ove59/s320/dock.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467880463074056258" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 159px; height: 130px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL-y256xnCjiN1L3zkg35p9w7N7i1hpBnhW9jU-n2E8NlMwPW6JupWr35Aa141zMa_z-w6FkVV55NzmM4A6XA8GxB9AKm3acRTTaj6IF4fN7pS7P6LizE5xzJvlXew5BwuXc643RA4WKnp/s320/dining+deck.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467880456689792722" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 149px; height: 130px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV64jYxzWfjbT7cjhVbdQpQHhAo_dHFTuKXM5rBKQmae6WjBZ5E-DYiiHIa_NxTJILw8MUwqjk2qW6qaRSRi3Uymf9M8XQax5J9hrXFu0nOSDLVOAEKfcNLN4b0872KAK-eDdYbzDTT-3e/s320/beach.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467880455538402338" />
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND
For over 40 years, Anthony’s Key Resort has dedicated itself to improving the experience of our valued guests so we are pleased to re-offer our popular special "Buy One - Get Second Half Off in 2010". Here are updates on specific areas:

Santiago Airport
Santiago International Airport has established 100% of its regular operations with a daily flow of around 24.000 passengers. Shortly after the earthquake, Santiago International Airport’s main building was inspected by two different teams of structural engineers, both of which concluded that no relevant structural damage could be found. Supporting infrastructure for National and International arrivals and departures was made operational within 48 hours of the earthquake. By Tuesday, March 9th, the international arrivals section of the main building was operational, adding to the International Departures section which was working 96 hours from the time of the earthquake. Today the airport is completely operational for passengers, with shops, restaurants and other services all fully functional.

Santiago, Valparaiso & Vina del Mar
All Santiago hotels are functioning normally, as are hotels in Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. San Cristobal Hill is open. Santa Lucia Hill is closed until further notice. The Fronck Museum in Vina del Mar has been closed until further notice. Most funiculars in Valparaiso are operational.

Vineyards
Wineries in Casablanca and the San Antonio Valley, such as Casas del Bosque, Indomita, Matetic, Casa Marin, are operation normally.
Wineries in the Colchagua Valley – Casa Silva, Lapostolle, Santa Helena, Hacienda Araucano, Laura Hartwing, Montgras – are operating normally. Some hotels, such as Santa Cruz and Lapostolle Residence were damaged and are being repaired.

Patagonia, Lakes & Volcano districts, Easter Island, Atacama Desert
No areas were affected by the earthquake. Since then, crews have been working hard to restore the vital rail access and rebuild sections that were completely destroyed. Fortunately, the UNESCO World Heritage site remained intact despite this natural disaster. During the rebuilding, a limited train service operated between the Piscacucho, provisional station located 50 minutes from Ollantaytambo, and the town of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes). It was necessary to transfer passengers by road from Cuzco or Urubamba to Piscacucho. We will keep you posted on further developments about the other train services to Machu Picchu.Garveyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04801460479648048619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1180553684880956574.post-7862107383690631402010-04-06T12:26:00.002-04:002010-04-06T12:29:25.989-04:00CHAA CREEK SUMMER CAMP<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 65px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAQ0KXl7oOT-m__gMfBVSh7syaH2OU4sQPzBPrddX6xKCloz0vVd7cfyugzxcVh1ftgk-4IJjKXz8GwhDkfJ5DmWFGJJ1dMv1WE5AJ58lAYr3PX-wFNue5kYt71G4YOmD_6aDhGQRlf_J0/s320/chaa+creek+summer+camp.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457062356287929138" />
Eco Kids Rainforest Adventure
Chaa Creek Summer Camp
July 18 -24, 2010
Looking for a special event for you and your 7-15 year old this summer?
Chaa Creek is offering a week long summer camp program to educate children about biodiversity, natural resource conservation, the ancient Maya, traditional healing, and the three "R's" Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

The program aims to instill memorable values that will have an impact on the way children conduct their lives, their relationship with our fragile Earth, and the sustainable development of our future.
Some of our guided educational activities include:
Hiking to ancient Maya sites where we will perform archaeological excavations,Horseback Riding through Jungle Trails while studying the medicinal flora within our 365-acre private reserve, Song writing and talent show sessions, Hands-on sustainable organic farming techniques, and Supervised water activities at Chaa Creek's new swimming pool.
6 Nights/7 Days all inclusive
Chaa Creek Nature Reserve

US$815 per child at the Macal River Camp
US$1206 per parent at The Lodge at Chaa Creek
Children's Summer Camp includes lodging at the Macal River Camp, all meals plus snacks three times a day, daily scheduling of educational events, arts & craft materials and t-shirt, Camp Counselors 24/7, and guided tours with our licensed naturalist guides.
Parents' rate includes airport transfers, lodge accommodation (next door to camp), all meals, and onsite activities.

For further details, contact Lost World Adventures at 800-999-0558.Garveyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04801460479648048619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1180553684880956574.post-44105276413824712932010-03-19T17:02:00.001-04:002010-03-19T17:06:04.712-04:00SERVICE TO MACHU PICCHU TO RESUME APRIL 1It is now confirmed that trains to Machu Picchu will resume operations on April 1st, 2010. Many of its plant and animal species are unique in the world, where animals have no fear of humans and can be photographed at close range –plus the unique illumination of the equatorial sun is great for amazing landscapes.
This is a unique opportunity to see and photograph the Galapagos, both above water and underwater with the guidance and care of experts in the field; a fascinating destination where your hardest decision will be where to point your camera first… Exceptional days in the islands, with rewarding locations within the itinerary, will also include photography workshops, presentations, and the use of modern photo-techniques. In the evenings, indulge in great dinners and cozy accommodations.
As you learn, apply in the field your new techniques in different approaches to landscape and wide angle, macro and portrait photography, using the unique light conditions only found in the Galapagos Islands. Mr. Green will permanently coach guests in both land and underwater photography, and since the walking pace of photographers is different to that of non photography groups, extended time periods will be scheduled for key species and ¨hotspots¨ along the trails.
A major plus will be the added opportunity to photograph Ecuador’s Andean Volcanoes and the city of Quito, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a jewel of Colonial art and architecture. Perurail has temporarily suspended rail services to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Caliente) – the town below the citadel. Although many local residents and business owners have been severely affected, with the aid of the Peruvian government and the private sector, work is in progress to rebuild damaged areas. It is estimated that normal tourist operations to Machu Picchu should resume by the beginning of April.

Plans to travel to the affected areas in April should not be disrupted.

The areas of Cuzco and the Sacred Valley have not been affected. There is far more to Cuzco and the Sacred Valley than Machu Picchu. Any plans to visit the area that do not include a visit to Machu Picchu should not be disrupted at all.

The following is an official statement regarding travel to Machu Picchu, Cuzco and the Sacred Valley:

February 3, 2010
Peru’s government announced a 60-day state of emergency in the Cusco department last week as heavy rainfall and mudslides battered the country’s southern Andean region. The storms flooded the Vilcanota River, which blocked the railway between Cusco and Machu Picchu, Peru’s sacred Inca citadel and top tourist attraction. The town of Aguas Caliente has been temporarily isolated. Some bridges have fallen and most crops have been lost. Furthermore, many rural houses built on the river banks or near the river have been inundated and some are a total loss.

British-owned Perurail has temporarily suspended services to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Caliente) – the town below the citadel - stranding some 2,000 tourists. Peru’s government sent police and military helicopters to evacuate the tourists and local residents.

The main tourist attractions of the Sacred Valley, such as Pisaq, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Maras and Moray; areas south of Cuzco: Tipon, Pikillaqta, Andahuaylillas and the citadel of Machu Picchu did not suffer damages. Nevertheless, it will not be possible to access Machu Picchu by train for up to seven weeks. We are confident that by early April all the tourist activity will be reestablished to Machu Picchu.

Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Martín Pérez, said Tuesday that Peru’s top tourist attraction, Machu Picchu, was not damaged following torrential rains, mudslides and floods that washed out roads and railroad tracks leading to the 15th-century sacred Inca citadel. Pérez expects repairs of the railway to be finished in eight weeks (from February 3rd).

“The citadel (of Machu Picchu), which I visited on Saturday (January 30th) after the tourists had been evacuated, was in perfect condition.” said Pérez. “The Inca knew not only how to build the drainage system, the hydraulic system is absolutely amazing. We went on Saturday and it was completely dry. We expect it will take eight weeks to repair the railroad tracks and (Machu Picchu) will be able to receive tourists again,” Pérez told Radio Programas Peru.Garveyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04801460479648048619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1180553684880956574.post-89208059722140202132010-01-07T13:38:00.002-05:002010-01-07T13:42:51.633-05:00M/S ALTA GALAPAGOS 2010 SPECIAL<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 120px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4egLUitVX9wVg7hdf0vxnRlMvRTFMbHOYO6BXHr3dWkqHOqDzVBQK2Cc9eq_yhwYHWmkBn3HGHixr75A7JdPpIvbOa2m9FVp1NpOKIax4VkxsT98fWewFHpdeoHFiMLs5jUdBwa4KqlHD/s200/alta.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424069925954135538" />
For all new bookings made on Alta's naturalist cruises by March 1, 2010

All new passengers booked and confirmed on Alta's Naturalist cruises by the dates above will receive their domestic air tickets to the Galapagos Islands, Transit Control Cards and Galapagos Park Entrance Fees at no additional cost. You will be able to experience their lifestyle in person.

A five-hour flight from Santiago, Chile will take you to this paradise full of legends and mysteries for you to discover. Easter Island, known as Rapa Nui by the locals, receives many visitors during February when the celebration of Tapati is held. Tapati is a 2-week celebration during which competitors and more than 50 events take place to decide the winning clan of the island.

Robinson Crusoe Island is one of the three islands of the Juan Fernandez Archipelago. A two-hour flight from Santiago, Robinson Crusoe is an exclusive and off-the-beaten-path destination that was declared a National Park in 1935. A unique ecosystem where flowers, birds and insects found an untouched land, including hummingbirds that can only be found in this part of the world. Out of 146 native species of plants, 101 are endemic. Robinson Crusoe Island is so amazing and unique that UNESCO declared it a World Biosphere Reserve.

Lost World Adventures can arrange your trip to Easter Island and/or Robinson Crusoe Island.Garveyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04801460479648048619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1180553684880956574.post-68979552650917219512009-11-02T12:01:00.002-05:002009-11-02T12:06:42.435-05:00Honduras Political ResolutionTOURISM AREAS CONTINUE TO WELCOME VISITORS
Tegucigalpa, Honduras (October 30, 2009) – Four months after President Manuel Zelaya was relieved of power on June 28, the interim Roberto Micheletti government and Zelaya officials have come to a resolution to end the ongoing political situation in Honduras.

On the evening of October 29, in a U.S.-brokered deal, both sides agreed to a resolution that asks the Honduran Congress, with prior authorization by the Honduran Supreme Court, to approve Zelaya’s return to the presidency until the end of his term. Under the agreement, the candidate elected in the November 29 elections will take office as planned in January 2010. The international community has praised both Micheletti and Zelaya for their willingness to come to a consensus, and end four months of uncertainty in the country.

As a result of this resolution, the World Bank will resume all projects committed to prior to June 28, and the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa will begin issuing Visas to Hondurans within the next week. The Honduran consulates in the U.S. and throughout the world will also resume their diplomatic positions within the next week.
Meanwhile, the Honduras tourism sector continues to welcome visitors to its many tourist areas. Wholesalers, tour operators and hotels in areas such as Roatán, Utila, La Ceiba, Tela and Copán Ruinas are offering special promotions to visitors for the remainder of 2009 and continuing into the 2010 high season. With this resolution and its widespread acceptance in the international community, the travel alerts issued by many countries are expected to be lifted in the forthcoming weeks.
“The committal to this resolution is excellent news for the Honduras tourism industry,” stated Ana Abarca, Minister of Tourism for Honduras. “With this, travelers from around the globe should have no hesitation in taking advantage of everything Honduras has to offer. We very excited to welcome visitors back to our beautiful country.”

Honduras is located in the heart of Central America, encompassing over 43,000 square miles, making it about the size of Tennessee. It is only a short flight from the U.S.: two hours from Miami or less than three hours from Houston or Atlanta. Honduras features a 500-mile Caribbean coastline on its north and a 100-mile Pacific coastline on its south. Travelers can tour Maya ruins in the western highlands, explore an underwater paradise in the Bay Islands, engage in eco-tourism in the La Moskitia region, immerse themselves in the Garifuna or Lenca culture, and much more. Honduras borders on the west with Guatemala, the southwest with El Salvador, and on the east with Nicaragua.Garveyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04801460479648048619noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1180553684880956574.post-33434846081965243682009-10-11T21:24:00.006-04:002009-10-11T22:05:28.515-04:00

Lost World takes it on the road!
